Climbing the stairs was a chore when carrying a backpack full of gear and a tripod. As I got to the top I took a breather and looked back at what I had scaled. I’m glad I did climb those stairs to get to Fisherman’s Bastion.

The Chain Bridge over the Danube is an iconic composition which I wanted to capture on this side of the river to include part of the Elizabeth Bridge, in the distance. The lights projecting onto the main supports are very bright, especially the ones at the top. It certainly allows the bridge to stand out […]
Technical (geek) Bit: I encountered quite a few issues taking this image. I had walked up and down Wenceslas Square during the day, sampling the sausages (yum!), and saw the roses standing up proud from the graphical swirls of the bushes underneath. I took a quick composition shot then and knew where to come back […]
When I was photographing Charles Bridge at night, I noticed the effect of the street lamp lighting reflecting off the water from under Margaret Bridge. When I went to take the image the following evening, I forgot about the reflection and focused on setting up the leading line into the twist that happens with this […]
This building is very brightly lit and extremely difficult to expose in such a way to balance the light on the building and capture the traffic’s light trails. I could spend days trying to “remove” the tram power lines but I won’t. I like what it adds to the composition.
I was not lucky with the weather in Hungary. It was overcast the whole time I was there, which was a contrast to the previous weeks blue skies and hot sunny days in Prague. So I tried to hide the cloudy skies with a frame within a frame shot of the Hungarian Parliament building. This […]
The Charles Bridge watch tower on the eastern side is a great place to watch the sun set behind Petrin. The gangway is quite small and so tripods are not allowed although there are enough lookout windows to rest your camera on.
The Széchenyi Chain Bridge is of great significance to Hungary for many reasons and to me it was probably the most important part of Budapest that I wanted to photograph. From the Buda side I was able to stand on a road island with my tripod and capture the subtle light streaks of the cars […]
Located between Wenceslas Square and the Charles Bridge, Prague’s Old Town Square features various architectural styles including the gothic Týn Church and baroque St. Nicholas Church. This view is looking out towards the Týn Church as the sun sets over the castle, behind me, lighting the clouds a subtle pink hue. There was enough space […]
From on top of the Old Town Hall tower, I was hoping for a clear view around Prague before the sun set and hopefully coloured the sky. The south side of Prague’s Old Town Square is composed of a series of beautiful buildings with colourful Renaissance and Baroque façades. I like the complimentary colours from […]
