I was really looking forward to entering the Hagia Sophia, as I queued to pay the admission fee. The queue in the morning was very long and so after visiting the Blue Mosque, the afternoon queue was much smaller and easier to tackle in the afternoon sun.
The exterior belies what is left of the beauty and colour of the interior. Even after nearly 1500 years (completed in 574 BC), it is easy to imagine the former magnificance which time and larceny has destroyed.
